My name is Becky Millar and I am a Lecturer in Philosophy at Cardiff University. I work in the Philosophy of Mind and Philosophy of Cognitive Science on perception and emotion, particularly from 4E (embodied, embedded, enactive and extended) and phenomenological perspectives. ​

Much of my research has focused on difficult-to-articulate experiences, such as the emotional experiences of grief and loneliness, and the perceptual phenomenology of smell and flavour. I am currently Partner Investigator on the Australian Research Council-funded project Grief at the Margins, which explores the under-recognised grief of marginalised people, particularly those who are LGBTQIA+ and/or neurodivergent.   

Previously, I was a Postdoctoral Research Associate for the project Grief: A Study of Human Emotional Experience at the University of York. I have a PhD from the University of Edinburgh, which focused on perceptual organisation and the applicability of sensorimotor enactivism--a theory that understands perceptual consciousness in terms of skill-mediated interactions with worldly objects--to flavour and smell. And before this, I took my first steps in academic philosophy by studying at the University of Cambridge. ​​​
